Good content sells!

Take care with your content.

At OlsenMetrix we’re firm believers that good content marketing is good marketing – and that good marketing generates sales.

We have therefore been delighted to read some research results that demonstrate that this is the case. What really impressed us is that the results show that quality content does not just increase sales by a few per cent – it can double sales (or more).

Ten top questions for GDPR compliance

Are you ready for the GDPR?

The (European) General Data Protection Regulation – now colloquially known as ‘GDPR’ – comes into effect across the EU on 25 May 2018. It replaces existing EU and UK data protection law. It will continue in force even after the UK leaves the EU because it is being translated into UK law through the Data Protection Bill which is currently before Parliament.

Marketing value

Price vs Value

Every potential customer – whether you sell to companies or consumers – is looking for ‘value’. The role of marketing is to deliver it.

We take this 'marketing value' proposition for granted. This is why we so often fail to understand what it really means and then to apply that understanding.

Customers may not know what they want

The essence of good marketing is to provide customers with what they want at a profitable price which they are willing to pay. A great deal of market research aims to find out what customers want and what they will pay for it.

Unfortunately, customers frequently do not know what they want, so asking them is pointless.

Motor car pioneer Henry Ford famously summed up the problem when he said: "If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses”.

Crisis planning – be assured, the worst will happen

Turning back the clock

What is the worst crisis you can imagine as far as your business is concerned? What are the contents of the phone call that you really never want to receive?

Have you rehearsed in your mind what you will say and do if that phone call ever comes?

If you have, great. You are at least one step on the road to having a crisis plan.

Unfortunately, many companies never get beyond that first step.

The four Ps of marketing are dead?

According to a self-proclaimed ‘digital prophet’ the four Ps of marketing are dead.

If it has been a while since you picked up a marketing textbook, let me remind you that the four Ps refer to product, price, promotion and place. When I formally studied marketing they were the foundations on which all marketing plans were based.

The route to content marketing success

There are three areas in which you should concentrate your content marketing efforts - planning, distribution and measurement.

New law could seriously disrupt your business

There are now less than 12 months before the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) comes into force in the UK.

Although this legislation originated in the European Union it will not be halted by Brexit. The government says that GDPR will become law in the UK in May 2018.

In our experience, many businesses are either totally ignorant of GDPR or have failed to appreciate its significance.

Does email marketing work?

Email marketing

We reckon email marketing works – for us and for our clients. But it is always interesting to get a view from others, so the recently-published report ‘Email marketing and marketing automation excellence’ made fascinating reading.

A company’s website is its shop window for the world. But having a website is a total waste of the company’s time, money and energy if no-one can find it – or if, having found it, no-one interacts with it by buying something, for example, or making an enquiry.

Mike Holland of OlsenMetrix will be one of the speakers at a seminar for members of the Cambridgeshire Chambers of Commerce which aims to help companies get more from their websites.

The event takes place at Huntingdon Racecourse on Tuesday 16 May 2017, starting at 09:00.
